Horsin' Around

Yee-haw! Boy, did we have fun today. We signed up for a horse ride, something we've never done while here at Snowbird, and ended up getting a three-for-one deal. It started with a ride on the tram since the Peruvian lift was closed because the weather wasn't great. The tram is fun enough, we seem to go on it pretty much every year. I just can't let myself think too much about it or spend too much time looking down.

We were met at the top by Seth in his Polaris Ranger, which was a new little toy that I wasn't familiar with. We were required to wear helmets while riding this amazing vehicle as we went down the switchbacks and climbed over rocks and generally had as fun a ride as you could want down the mountain!

On the way down Jacob decided that he wanted to come back to Snowbird in the winter to snowboard. He had been observing the terrain and imagining it covered in snow and decided this would be his kind of fun.

We arrived at the corral and were met by some very nice wranglers who got us saddled up. Jake's horse was named "Monster", which was really far from the truth. But Jake liked thinking of the possibilities!

Jake doing his best cowboy imitation while Monster stands there wondering "why me?"

This was Abbie's very first time riding a horse all by herself, without anyone leading the horse, and she was pretty happy about this. She has waited a long time for this experience.

Abbie is being led here, but just to kind of show her what to do as they leave the corral.

We experienced a mountain ride, which meant a lot of going down and a lot of going up and a fair amount of rugged terrain.

But it was stunningly beautiful on that side of the mountain.

It was an overcast day and we did get sprinkled on but it wasn't a big deal. I did think that it was probably a more pleasant ride than had it been a hot, sunny day.

One of the wranglers offered to take our picture toward the end of the ride. She didn't really get us in focus, but that's okay.

And then Jake wanted a picture of just himself and she said, "okay!" This is what she took. Jake was disappointed because he wanted a shot of him "alone" out in the wilds. Oh well.

We didn't have a lot of time to get back to the top of the mountain to catch the tram before it shut down, and the wrangler who took us up REALLY took us up! Oh, my gosh! That was a wild ride up. But we did make it with a few minutes to spare!

It was cold and wet and getting late and we were getting cold and hungry and tired, but it was a ton of fun. Glad we did that.
