How Much Is Too Much?

Can there be too many photos of flowers in the Spring?

After a long, cold, dreary winter
is there such a thing as
too many flower photos?

Is my fascination with pink blossoms and bees
overkill?

And the beautiful, blue sky
behind those pink blossoms
takes my breath away.

Everywhere I look
I see the blossoms

And I hear the bees

And I smell the fragrance.

It is lovely.

All of it.

Come On, Little Peas...

I know you can do this.
I know you can grow-grow-grow.
Do it for me, Little Peas.
Do it for my children.
We want to eat your sweet, crunchy, garden goodness.

Oh, Strawberries!
You're doing great.
Keep it up. We want more of you.

Sweet, little Lilac bush.
You know how much I love you.
I thrill with anticipation at your sweet-smelling blossoms.
I'll gather your blossoms into my house
and fill the air with your sweetness.

Oh! Raspberry plants!
I am so impressed.
You survived the harsh winter.
You survived the fence section lying on top of you for a week.
Or longer.
Now if we would only clear out the leaves and debris around you
so you can breath.

This time of the year is so exciting. So lovely.
All the new growth.
All the possibilities.
All the green-ness.
It makes me happy.

Ugh.
What's with this?
This certainly isn't pretty.
A garden plot full of weeds.
And some of last years onions.
D'ya think they're any good...?

Well.
A flower pot full of dead geraniums.
That's kinda depressing.

Okay. Okay.
So I have a lot of work to do.

Humming With Possibilities

This bush is in our back yard.
I love the wildness of it.
I know we're supposed to trim our bushes
but I don't really care for the perfectly manicured look.
I like a bit of an untamed look.

Every spring this bush starts to hum.
If you look closely-

you'll see scads of bees working hard.
The bush hums with the Bee Song.

Look what I saw in the bush today!
He's a BIG one.
I was very careful around this guy.
Twice he buzzed me off.
Chased me away.
And I obliged.

I do love this bush in the Spring.

It's a Bunny Thing

Gotta love Spring time
and all things Bunny.

(my "holiday shelf" for Easter/Spring)

Last week we did the Candy-Easter-Thing
while we were at Gramma's
and with the boys.

I really like that we did it all
the week before Easter.
I think it will give Easter Sunday
more meaning.

One of our Easter traditions,
which I'm sure many people have,
is the Bunny Cake.

(The 2009 cake)

I have been making this cake
for many, many years.

(1994-Ft. Irwin, CA)

And I've taken a picture
pretty much every year.

I won't bore you with pictures of
All Those Cakes.

(the 2000 Bunny)

Our tradition has been to have a party
on the Saturday before Easter

(the 2003 Bunny)

And we'd play games
and have an egg hunt
and have Bunny Cake

(the 2006 Bunny)

Last year
I was going to simplify my life
and not make the cake.

But my grown son asked me
if I was going to make
the Bunny Cake.
So I did.

This is the first,
the original,
the One-That-Started-This-Long-Tradition
Bunny Cake
from 1988.
Nico was 2 1/2 years old and
Samo was almost 1 year old.

Twenty-one years of Bunny Cakes.
That ought to count for something...

Blowin' In The Wind

It
does
not
stop.

It may be hard to tell,
but the tops of the trees
are swaying to the left
in
the
wind.

The wind
does not stop
around here
in the spring.

It has been blowing so hard
that it blew down the fence
between our yard and the neighbors!

I fear for the state of our raspberries.
They're probably kind of crushed.

But...
the signs of spring
are definitely here.

The trees

are budding

while they blow in the wind-

AND
you're looking at
a garden box
with 5 rows
of planted peas...

I didn't get them planted by March 17
(which is when "they" say to plant your peas)
but I think it'll be okay.

So, Mr. Wind,
just keep on blowing
that Springtime our way.
