Last Scout Standing

Jake is our last scout left. After years and YEARS of scout dens and pack meetings and scout camps, there really is an end in sight. There aren't too many summer scout camps left for this family. That means a little more free time for Doug, too! He has been a faithful scout father, going on pretty much all of the camps, whether they were over-nighters or the week long. I don't think he misses going to the winter Klondike camp, which around here is usually pretty cold.

Today Jake left for New Fork in Wyoming, close to Jackson. This is the third time Jake has gone to New Fork, and he loves going there!

There are some great scout leaders in our ward and the boys have a wonderful time learning skills and just having fun. They left this morning, Saturday, and will be home next Saturday. It is a long time to be gone! This year Doug was only able to go up for this weekend, so he and another dad rode their motorcycles up, and Doug will come home tomorrow night. It is about a 5 hour drive to New Fork.

So Jake will be having a week of great adventures! He only needs two required merit badges to earn his Eagle award and they aren't offered at this camp, so this week is pure fun for him. He's thinking about doing the sailing and shotgun merit badges, and maybe wilderness survival. Real tough, huh?

I'm happy he gets to have this experience. But I've already missed him! These scout camps can actually be kind of hard on a mom. Last night after he was packed I wrote some notes to him and stuck them in different places in his clothes in the suitcase so that he can find them throughout the week and know that his mama loves him! Jake is a good boy, my son with the golden heart. Love you, Jake! Hope you're having a great time under the stars tonight. Be well!
